  Delta Chi American Chapter History:

As early as 1989, Delta Chi became interested in establishing a colony at American University - a school known for its activist political population and its location. In October 1990, the official colony at American University was started. Several men showed their interest in being associated with such an organization. There were over 44 founding fathers of the American Chapter, each with defining characters that set the basis for the fraternity’s growth at American University.

Finally, on December 4 th, 1992, the American chapter received their charter. They joined a number of Greek organizations that were establishing themselves on campus. In 1994, two Delta Chi’s ran for the school’s Student Confederation. Though they were unsuccessful in their bids to be elected, they helped to set precedence for Delta Chi’s in leadership positions on campus. A Delta Chi has been president of the Residence Hall Association, president of Letts Hall, president of the Inter-fraternity Council, and several have been GA representatives for the Student Confederation.

Starting in the new millennium, the American chapter took an even higher role across the campus. In 2002-2003 and 2003-2004, the Delta Chi sports teams won the intramural Greek cup races with a championship in football in fall 2002, a championship in basketball in fall 2002, and another championship in football in spring 2004. Also, sparked by recent accusations of misconduct by Greek societies, Delta Chi has led the charge in boosting the Greek image around American University. In the past few months, Delta Chi was responsible for a dinner fundraiser that received thousands of dollars for Rachael’s Woman’s Shelter in DC. They have also been heavily involved with Washington Parks and People and the Grenada Hurricane disaster fund. In the future, Delta plans on sponsoring a unit of troops in Iraq as well as sponsor a little league baseball team in the summer.
